2D Floorplans

Floor plans refer to the arrangement of rooms in a building. It is a scale diagram of a room or complete building as if seen from above. Essentially these are almost always drawn on a 2D scale before architecture realization take it to the next level namely 3D rendering.

You have seen them in pamphlets of new housing development, you have seen them on action TV when the master cat burglar plans his great escape. How to read my 2D floor plan?

It is quite similar to reading a map . The point of the view is downward from above, but unlike the conventional map , a floor plan is understood to be drawn at a particular vertical position (commonly at about mid-level between floors).

Designs below this level are seen, layout at this level are shown 'cut' in a plan-section, and layout above this vertical position within the structure are omitted or shown dashed. Plan view or " plan form" is defined as a vertical orthographic projection of an object on a horizontal plane.
